nice, small... but with some sass lol
what exactly do/would i need to make this come to life?
i mean, given that i'd already have:
- help from other graphic designers
- a 3d modeling proggie such as 3dsmax
- a butt load of music ( :) lol, big on music ) to keep a good mood going
- a whole lot of Characters
- and a game idea....

now... for the ish i don't have....
- game engine...(besides... GAME MAKER! lol.... yeah ok, like that'll help)
- the actual programming know how (but i can learn fast.. really i can, lol... if i want it bad enough, i'll do it)
- and people that would actually get in on it for the hell of it...

anything else i need?
and how can i get these things (software wise)

yeah, i know... i probably sound like every other noob, but i've been wanting to do this for the longest time now, but as for now... i must go... food's a callin! haha

I guess you need to know what you style you want it to be; ie. isometric, first-person etc. What TYPE of game is it? RPG? Action? Fighting?

If you're loking to do your own engines I've found the prima-tech series of books most helpful. They've got a bunch of useful books called the "game develpment series". One example is a book on building isometic 3d games with directx.

Alternatively, you could use an existing engine, say like quake 3 or unreal and mod them. There's plenty of info around on building across these engines, although if you want to actually SELL the game using the engine, I believe the license is quite expensive (eg. Last time I checked, the quake 3 engine cost around $US 250,000).

Um... does this help?:hmm:

it did help :)
told me a few things that i didn't know which are pretty useful for later thought. now as for what I want to do...

i was thinking of a simple 3d action game (since motion should be much simpler with 3d, in comparison to actually drawing up every frame... and getting tired)
more or less like a street fighter (tekken force mode from the tekken series) 3 - 4 main characters... basically kick all types of ass all over the place lol

or.... since i'm a huge racing fan... maybe a wipeout mock-up just for the hell of it (since i like speed, and the hover crafts/ships can be made from one's imagination and not trying to build a car that's actually out) with sweet scenery, and music to match... know what i mean?

maybe i'm just aiming too high, but eh... it's something to do.. if you guys could show me the right path and maybe a few tips and tricks of the trade... i'd be more than happy and greatful... hell, you guys can get in on it and put a character/stage/ship in it and help out with the making of it :) since you guys pretty much rock hard...

thanks alot guys :) really appretiate the non display of "SHUT UP NOOB!" lol and the possitive attitudes :)

Why not make a combination of all of those things?:D
Either that, or focus on one of them. In terms of complexity, I guess a racing game would be the easiest to start with.

very true... the racer seems to be a hell of a lot easier compared to any other idea... what would be cool is having some sort of option that lets players build their own cars (with a 3d model proggie of their own, ofcourse) and have it be playbable in the game... hell...maybe a net-play game that way it'd have different options and stuff... :: high hopes huh ::
i'm gonna see if even i could make one racer... theeeeen... lol, i'll see if i could/would follow thru
