Hi,

Im a maya user but i heard about Wings amazing auto UV tool, i have to say it is amazing. I used it on the head that i just finshed modeling. But i have one question, when i UV mapped it, what happens is that the face (acutal face of the head) is in the center and is the smallest part of the UV map, which means i can't alot detail in beause its so small, while as the UVs get bigger and bigger as u move toward the neck. Here is a picture:

I guess what im asking is, is there a way to make the auto UV do the thing inside out, so that the face is big, and as u move towards the neck it gets smaller.

Thanks
Tabha

It looks like its doing the best it can with the model with the cuts it was given. It looks like you have no cuts (other than maybe at the base of the neck) for it to unfold. The only way for all the geometry to stay connected when flattened is to exaggerate the angles (the 'getting bigger' effect you see).

This is like a standard Mercator projection map. On those, Greenland is always huge because it is trying to map out the spherical surface into a rectangle. The area has to grow bigger to fill the space. If you see the maps where they slice it up a bit (can't remember the term) the continents can keep their relative sizes intact.

I'd suggest a slice all the way up the back of the head so that the map can unfold a little more naturally. You don't need to break it up into separate pieces. I was suggesting the back of the head as I figured it is less likely to be seen (or possibly covered with a hat or hair) so that blending your seams in the texture is less critical.

Thanks
