View Full Version : Flamingo have a simple GI? like Skylight in max?
Lord Banshee 05-26-2005, 03:56 PM Well my company has had flamingo since version 2 and today is my first time trying it out. It is a pretty fast render compared to brazil beta and scanline. But i havn't did anything special yet just rendered a model by default.
My question is, Is there a Skylight(max) option to create easy GI?
Thanks,
Chris

flamingo is not fast compared to brazil at all. I am suprised you say that. Maybe it got alot faster in the latest version. We don't render in rhino anymore, just wanted to comment on that.

the brazil beta for Rhino is very early release. It is mightly slow. It can touch the Brazil in Max which is very fast, but then again not as fast as VRay from what i can tell.

I wish VRay worked with Rhino. From the renders I've seen with VRay, I think that VRay would be my favorite renderer... even if it was slow. That VRay sure looks impressive!

vray has a standalone project they are working on. I haven't heard much from it in a while, but you may be able to render in it eventually with it. I don't think it's all that great for product or cars though.
I didn't know you were talking about brazil for rhino. I didn't notice it was avaiable in beta yet. I just started playing with rhino 4 in my free time. Is it in there or do you have to get it seperate. I noticed some treefrog render, but haven't played with that yet.

Brazil is not include with Rhino4 beta nor will it be in it when it launches.. at least from what i heard it is going to be a buyable plug-in like Flamingo.
Here is the link to download Brazil 2.0 WIP 2a http://download.mcneel.com/brazil/2.0/wip/download_wip1.asp
*note* you need to own a copy of Rhino3D 3.0 like the Rhino 4 WIP download.
Back on topic, Anybody know how to make quick GI in Rhino w/Flamingo?
Thanks,
Chris

Hi there Lord banshee Unfortunately there is no GI option with flamingo, thats one thing it desparately is lacking !!! The closest you'll get is by using a light dome set up but that has a tendancy to send the render times throught the roof !! But sometimes its worth it. The best results ive had with it is using point lights with soft shadows enabled and you can get some pretty good results from it with a little bit of tweeking !! But roll on Brazil for Rhino 4 !! this scene was rendered with 2 point lights very simple set up but the result came out pretty good
