The Alberta College of Art & Design Jewelry & Metals program is running an introduction level Rhino (3.0) based modeling, rendering and rapid prototyping class this summer between June 27th and August 17th.

There is a promo poster for this class in PDF format:

------------------

Learn CADCAM this summer and have objects made from your creations.

Design your object in full three dimensions on a home PC, rotate it at will
with your mouse, render it so it looks like a photograph and then have it
made into plastic, ready to be cast into metal. The ACAD jewellery program
has a new course that teaches how to do just this: Rhino 3-D modeling,
taught by Ryan Hayward.

This is the first time this credit course has been offered in the summer.

This class introduces students to the Rhinoceros 3D modeling application,
the Flamingo rendering plug-in, and output to the stereolithography format
for purposes of rapid prototyping.

Jewellers, Sculptors, and multidisciplinary artists will discover how
working in a 3D digital environment can improve their spatial understanding
and open new avenues for conceptualizing and producing work.

Through the rapid prototyping process digital 3D models can be accurately
converted into plastic objects. Once mastered Rhino allows the creation of
complex physical forms which can be created with relative ease and
efficiency.

This course covers a variety of tools and techniques for working in the 3D
environment, creating 2D renderings, working from reference designs,
working to scale, and developing an organized workflow.
