I play with this a lot using the detail controls, but I'm sure I'm not as good at it as some of you.

What I'll tend to do is set minimum edge length to within 10 or 20% of the maximum edge length, have refine checked, and the rest at default (except I almost always disable weld)...

Would love to know what mesh settings people here use, especially for complex polysurfaces...

when dealing whith big project whith some complex polysurfaces.... i treat each surface separately....it highly depends of the type of ur surface.
So all surfaces composing polysurfaces will be optimized in function of its shape.....
Don't have time to talk about numeric values... It's a big subject. Perhaps Next time ;)

I just fill in zero for everyting except for 'max distance edge to surface' and the 'minimum initial grid quads'. Then check 'refine'. I leave everyting else unchecked.

under detailed setings i only ever change the
maximum angle and the refine mesh option
i think its higher maximum angle then more detailed the mesh....
but seriously thats all i ever fiddle with.....
turn off refine mesh if you find some odd meshing issues happening of extra polygons where they should not be.....

Smaller the angle, more detailed the mesh.

Yes, it pays to treat each surface separately, cause Rhino will create less polygons than on a polysurface.

There was a very good tutorial on Renderosity explaining the intricacies of meshing, but I cannot find it.

erlik thats a real shame... i don fien with the meshing options but i have to admit i dont comepletly understand it all... far from it. if anyone does knwo of someplace that does explain this i would love to see it.

my mesh setting change all the time.. for two reason.. first being that i mainly mesh things at different times because they have differnt geometry/forms. second being that i dont totally understand it and im always tweaking to get a better result.

i would love to read up on this... if no one can find anything i think andrewjohn is the guy to talk to.

You can try this one (http://www.renderosity.com/messages.ez?Form.ShowMessage=1964732). It's not the one I meant, but it's quite a good explanation nevertheless.

PS. Or we could always ask Teyon. :D
