i have a proposal for you all!

so i have noticed that this forum is become more and more based upon the technical aspect of Rhino... i have nothing against that but after all we are cg artist are we not?

so my proposal is that we follow a tutorial to build on out technical knowledge of Rhino and then produce a final image.

some guidlines i was thinking of:
- all follow a tutorial posted by a cgtalk user (could bring satisfaction to that user - a nice way of telling them we appreciate the effort)
- all modeling and rendering must be done in Rhino with not plug-ins or additional assitance from programs
- a time limit of a week?? 2 maybe?? (to keep an active intrest and tutorials basic)
- possibly same angle and view for render

i would love for this to be a sucess, we had a glass modeling thing going for a while but everyone felt it was too basic and shruged it off. this way even the newest modeler should be able to get to a similar stage. if this is a sucess i do not see why mini comps within the Rhino forum based similar to the cgtalk challenges, where the artist has full creative control, cannot be a regular thing.

I think this would be a great way to start and form a stronger sub community of Rhino users.

So what do you think? These are just my ideas... one of many users here and i would love to here all of your opinions... positive or negative you have a voice too! I would be more than happy to lead this and help as much as i can, if we can agree on a tutorial and guidlines im sure we can have the first set up at the end of the week.

If you think aspects of this do not work please tell me as i want to set somethign like this up in the near future.. tweaking or a whole rework of the idea fine so lets hear what you ahve to say!

Just been doing the blades tut and I would recomened that to any novice. Learnt a lot in that including why my boolians had been failing. Now I know to check the normals.:D

Anyway how bout a comp to produce a bladed weapon. Can expect a lot of creative blood lust!

so blades okay with everyone?

i can see that a few people are viewing this thread and not posting, as posting takes time and effort minimal but i can relate... i have started a poll. the poll is anonymous, and i kinda need a few votes before i can start this. So get with the small userbase we have here at the moment your vote means more than you think.

cheers

bladed weapons? would that be my tutorials? :scream:

even if it is is....i think i would probably enter...simply because i have never once used Rhino to render! hehehehhe
i always create what i need...export it to Poser and then render from there.......so it would be fun for me to learn basics of Rhino rendering!
and you right.....I think its a superb idea to hilight peoples effort in the tutorials and give credit where credit is due!

count me in....for both participation and support!

Yup, I found your tuts very helpfull to a total beginner like me.

As for the comp is it only Rhino we can use or can we use photoshop for setting up reference photos for background bitmaps?

well even with only 5 of us voting so far! i think you should run this and make a go at it!
once its up and running it might well be that people will see how much we have and tag along!

I agree..

I think as soon as it is running people will just drop in.

Maybe we should be a little cruel and entry date. If you haven't applied for entry then you cannot participate:twisted:

I have two extreemly swamped days ahead of me but I can set it up this weekend. I'm sure by then there will be additional attention.

A note for any of your keen Rhino people planning on making tutorials, or have but have not released them yet, can you PM me and we might be able to start the next mini comp on that. (if not we might be stuck with a tutorial of mine on how to model a sock :hmm:) Dont worry i wouldnt do that to you.

But i do think we have to go by some kind of honesty rule if a tutorial is already released.

I'm not going to model anything for lack of time. I just took on a rather detailed project of my own, but I'll still be active and try and help/ask questions where I can on this one.

Thank you for this, Tilite! Personally, it is the artistic content of this forum that draws me here and even though I am a newbie and have never shared anything I've done because it isn't up to the level of virtually anything I've seen posted, I am excited to try this blade project. Just waiting for the details (please don't make the restrictions too fancy). If I can rise to the challenge, so can anyone who has never participated before!

I agree, kirisute's tut's are wonderful! I learned alot just by doing them and using those things in other things, I would love to see a bladed weapon project as well, I couldn't do it justice but I can try.
