View Full Version : circle
flightcrank 06-10-2005, 03:59 AM hi, im new to 3d modeling. i have a simplw question but because im new im not quite sure on how to figure it out. To better explain my problem heres a picture
http://maximhome.no-ip.org/icons/tube.jpg
as you can see, in wireframe form my "tube" looks fine, but when renderd its outer ans inner edges are squared off, and arn't smooth.
i made this tube by drawing a 2d circle curve. i then drew anther smaller circle which i preformed a "sweep 1 rail" this gave me the solid rounded tube.
like i said you can see when renderd its not a perfect tube. any ideas on how to get it looking nice and smooth would be good. thank you

This has to do with your mesh settings. The wireframe you see is nurbs, but for the render Rhino needs to create render meshes. You can make the render mesh smoother by going into the document properties > mesh. Check 'smooth and slower' or make your own settings.

This seems to be a question that everyone new to Rhino has....
Worth a sticky?

not worth a sticky, I don't think.
If you follow the tutorial, or even read through them, in the book then you will come accross this many times. I keep thinking, "I think I know rhino pretty well now," but every time I look through the book I find something I didn't know before. Everyone should just read through the books/help files. Even people with illegal versions should be able to do that.
It's just my opinion though. I hate a ton of stickys at the top. They seem to quickly get cluttered, and make it difficult to find what you need. There are alot of useless posts which I think should be deleted, like the one word posts, "I agree", or "this forum rocks." It just makes everybody else scroll further down the page. I've noticed that those short useless answers always seem to be happening most in stickys.

I think a sticky should be considered for both render meshes and absolute tolerances. The defaults are very troublesome to those learning to model in Rhino (I've only been doing it a year) and result in everything from the faceted appearance the poster is asking about, to problems with Join, Fillet, and making a model water tight for RP.
The books give decent general descriptions of what is useful, but since people design everything from yachts to earrings and everything larger and smaller, the general descriptions are often confusing and useless to a beginner.
Once I got the settings right for my jewelry items, A LOT of modeling problems went away.
Just a settings done properly can save hundreds of hours of frustration.
