Hello everyone,

Can I assign a single letter key to a command in Rhino?

The best feature in softwares like MAX, Maya and C4D is a highly customizable UI which you can totally customize it to suit your workflow.

Assigning a single letter key to a command would be great as well as a customizable pop up menu like Maya.

you can do something similar over Aliases (Tools -> Options -> Aliases card) You will define for example "J" letter for Join command.. So when you will type J to console and click enter, Join command will be processed...

Yo, and sry for my english =)

Hi Khorram,

You also can build up your own menus. There is a small popup
window which you can access by pressing your middle mouse button.

You also can Ctrl + drag&drop other icons to that popup window.
Very customizable which allows you efficient working.

I'm so used to typing out my commands now that even after setting up shortcuts for nearly every function I use on a regular basis I just forget to use them. The main thing that slows me down there is taking my hand off the mouse to hit the right hand keys/enter...it still feels a lot quicker than looking for a button though.

I have to agree with Xist on this one. I use a few different computers, somtimes not my own, so it's best for me just to know the commands. It's either learn those commands, create new ones and learn those, or learn where the buttons all are on your custom toolbars. It's all the same to me.

So many times, though, I forget that a tool exists, then find it later and that always pisses me off that I forgot about it.
It would be nice to have one toolbar with ALL of the tools on it without the dropdowns just to open up every once in a while and look it over for a refresher.

lol... you do know if you had this toolbar your working space would be like 20x20 pixels.

I so often forget about tools too and still learning how to use them all... so having them all layed out for a day of experiments might not be to bad.

well, for one, I've got two monitors.

The other thing, is I was thinking it wouldn't be a permenant toolbar, just one you would brink up to see what all is available.

funny that you say that though. Probably pretty true too.

Hello Everyone,

Thank you all for replies and you Maxwater for your useful tip. Hope that this thread could be useful for others too.

If you know any good source for Fiat 131 Abarth or Supermirafiori with a precise blueprint or technical information I appreciate if you let me know.

I am modeling the Abarth rally car and I will share it soon as a WIP here in CGTalk. If I get enough time I will make a tutorial to model it by using both Nurbs and Polygons.

Hi Xist,

I optimized my way of working using aliases. First i built up my own Popup-Toolbar,
but working with aliases seems much faster for me.

i set them up like:

bc = blendcurve
s = split
x = explode
bd = boolean difference
etc. etc.

Very Quick change of Displaying modes
like
W = wireframe
R = renderedview
F = fullscreen toggle etc.

everything is just 1 Keyclick away (ok,ok + 1 RMB click :) )

You dont have to leave your right hand to press ENTER. pressing right mouse button
(or space-bar) will do the same to activate that command.

Once you get used to them , you work fast as hell.!!!
I always take my aliases with me on my USB-Stick.
Just import them with a few clicks and turn to highspeed Rhinoing.

Greets,
maxwater
