View Full Version : RUbber duck tutorial problem....
Ive been over this about 20 times and it still doesnt work. this is the basic intro tutorial so all of you can see it (around page 14). (by the way im not totally computer illiterate so dont worry about that)
Trim the neck hole into the body
From the Edit menu, click Trim (http://javascript<b></b>:BSSCPopup('../Popups/command_trim.htm');) .
At the Select cutting [edges]<<on mine it says "CUTTING OBJECTS"??]] ... prompt, select the extruded surface and press Enter.
At the Select object to trim ... prompt, "select the body on the inside of the extruded surface"<<I CANT SELECT THIS EITHER, IT JUST SELECTS THE WHOLE BODY !! and press Enter.
A hole will be created in the body. [A hole isnt created in the body !!!... the body gets deleted and the surface inside the cutting object stays]
Delete the extruded surface
I really want to know what this tiny stupid little problem is !!!
any help greatly appreciated.

Trim depends on where you click. You are clicking on the object that you want to keep. Click on the part that you don't want to keep.
Sometimes Split is easier because of this. Many people use Split, then delete the piece that is suppose to be trimmed away.
I couldn't follow the rest of it because I think someone has the book at their desk or something. I can't find it.

sometimes there aren't that many isoparms/too many isoparms and makes it difficult to be able to click the spot that you need to click.

Yes , you're right!
But the fact is :
I already did that tutorial "many times" and (sometimes after several click) I always got the hole inside the "duck body".

DID IT !! ...had to zoom in at the right angle and zoom in VERY close !! thanks for feedback peeps :)

Don't know if it's a tip!
By using the properties tab you can increase the object's isocurves quantity , having this way a very easy trim , even if your srf trimming curve is very small.

That IS a decent tip. I do that for shapes that I know I will be selecting alot from hard to reach places.
It would be alot more useful if someone could script something like control, alt, up and down to change that faster.
It's a pain to hit f3, change the isos, then close the box. It can add a bunch of time to your workflow when sometimes split/zoom target would just be faster.
It would also be nice if it would have the main iso's in a bolder color or something like that.
Your iso trick is also nice if you want to split something into thirds or something like that. You can use that to make sure that the object has a divisible number of your choice, then split on the iso. I actually can't even think of another way to do it at the moment unless it's something planar like a box.
