Rhino, IMHO, is simply the best app in which to model hair (for transmapping).

Here's a quick tute on how I do it.

First:

Import your mesh, and rotate it so the z axis is up.

so this by turning on "SNAP" and rotating from the world center in the RIGHT view.

The following is for POSER figures:

Then, I type SCALE, select the world axis again, and type "20" and hit enter. This way, after you have created your mesh, you can do exactly the same thing again, type scale, select the world center, and type ".05" and your model will be scaled properly for poser. Rotated it back to the Y axis, and it will also be properly positioned.

So, after I have my head in the correct position, I draw my curvse in the RIGHT view.

INTERPCRV command gets me the draw action I like, you can use SKETCH or CURVE, I like INTERPCRV.

This is assuming you're doing hair with a center part. For a left or right part, you would first sketchon mesh... but that's a different tutorial.

Next, I always rebuild my curves so that they have the exact same number of points.

Next, and this is a biggie. type PTON.

I will try and line up each row of points so they line up relatively smoothly.

type "O" then enter (letter O) to turn on ortho so you don't loose your curve position. turn OFF SNAP! Make sure that there are NO OSNAP options selected. OSNAP should be greyed out in the lower bar.

I also use HIDEPT to help me identify which visible points I'm working with.

Next, I turon OFF ORTHO, and turno OSNAP END on.

I draw straignt curves between the ends of each curve at the top.

Once done, I select this new curve and type EXPLODE, and select them all again.

I select the center two points of each part curve, and move them up a bit, so they're not flat.

Now it's time to SWEEP2

I sweep every other set to starth, then lock all the surfaces, and do those in between. You don't have to do this, but it does speed things up for me.

I also have each surface rebuilt so everything matches.

since it's a center part, you don't have to do the other side, just mirror it and JOINSRF.

I made this image to check the direction of the UV

and it's all going the same direction, all I need is to apply a hair texture with the hair horizontal.

Now, select ALL , type JOINSRF

Then type MESH!

Play with the mesh controls.

I always deselect WELD, and at the scale I use, a minimum edge length of .8, and maximum of 1 in the detail controls. I often deselect "REFINE, depending.

then EXPLODEMESH will explode the mesh into the various swept objects.

Now, you type SETOBJECTMATERIAL for each Material group you want to create, scale it back down, export to WAVEFRONT OBJ

Once in POSER, use the GROUPPING TOOL to weld the hair back together.

Apply your materials and you're done http://poserpros.daz3d.com/forums/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Someone familiar with Rhino could do this hair in less than an hour.
