View Full Version : Any Gizmo plugins?
SpiderMunky 06-29-2005, 03:06 PM Hi everyone.
I've been using wings 3d for the last couple of days and so far I've been very impressed with it. My only complaint is that moving vertices etc is a bit more complicated than I'm used to. I come from a 3ds max background so I was wondering if there is a plugin that would replicate the movement/rotation/scale gizmo that it has? I just find that so much easier than clicking through menus or assigning key presses.
Thanks in advance,
Greg

No - afaik.
Main devs have said no, so only chance is from elsewhere - but I wouldn't hold your breath :)

no, no and no! have you tried using tweak? gizmo's are slow.

Oh well, that's a bit dissapointing. I just find them very intuitive.
Guess I'll just have to get used to binding my keys although it's quite a messy way of doing things IMO :(
Thanks for your replies,
Greg

<< messy way >>
'different' - certainly - 'messy' - I think a few ppl might disagree :)
It'd be stupid to extol the virtues of one approach over the other - at the end of the day, use what's most comfortable for you.
Remember, though, that you can bind the same hotkey to the same command across all 4 selection modes (eg all 19 move options on 5 keys). You can also bind the same key to different (unique) commands across different selection modes - eg P (say) to Face | Bump (only exists in face menu) and then assign P to do something else in one of the other 3 selection modes.
If it's still not what you want / can get on with - then you'll probably have to look elsewhere - maybe Silo, if you don't mind spending a few quid.

What I meant to say was that I just find gizmos more intuitive from an interaction point of view. In 3ds max I can move a point in any direction along an axis or plane with minumum effort simply by clicking and dragging. I wasn't really complaining about Wings, it is just a feature I have become so used to that it'll take a bit of re-adjustment.
The problem I have with binds, is that I am mainly running Wings from a USB memory key on my work computer and I haven't found a way of getting it to remember them after I exit the app, so it means I have to re-configure it each time I load the software. Which means changing the movement keys can take a fair while. :D If anyone knows a work around for this I'd be very grateful.
Thanks,
Greg
