View Full Version : tools to know...
ok, new wings user here and i'm really starting to get into it. i did baz c's tutorial and i'm working thru wiro's tutorial now, just imitating the steps in wings and figuring out what does what. the only tools i've really used so far are the move tools, break, connect, select edge loop, and virtual mirror. what are the other indispensible wings tools that i need to figure out? i know there's a "cool stuff you figured out" thread but i'm not quite there yet, just looking for the basic everyday stuff i need to learn before getting into the more advanced stuff. thanks.

fig I have learned almost all the tools and still dont know every possible application but its good to know how they work so when the time comes to do something new or in a new way you know what you can throw at it to get the results you want
for every way to do something in wings there is at least one other or more way to do it :)

yup,what the monkey said :)
I know the basic application of most tools,I think,
but guys like pp and others over at the official forums constantly come up with stuff that just makes me go "wtf?",
stare at the monitor for 5 minutes, and slap my head for not thinking of it myself ;)
thanks guys. starting to figure things out, i'll post once i have something worth showing :)

It all depends on how you like to work, and what you are making. For organics I use a certain toolset, but for non-organics I use other tools. Mess with everything and see what happens, maybe you will find a tool or two that you really like to use, then just hotkey them or use them for Default commands, and there you have it.
off to play with bevel, thanks :) i'm also trying to figure out how to hotkey the move tools; i like being able to limit the movement to one axis, do y'all have a different hotkey for each axis or just move free or..?
