View Full Version : Hide selected faces?

I tried and it just hides the entire mesh, instead of the selected faces. Is this something unique to the way wings works?

ok everyone take a step back
ok take another step back
keep going till your outside the box

so a pesky arm is in the way of editing the ribs
select the face on the part of the arm you want gone
now press shift+L
now we have an edgeloop
now loop cut that sucker
now hide that arm

ok now remember try not to edit the arm points at where you just cut it or you will have to fix it

once your done editing and ready to reattach the arm simply unhide go to object selection mode and select both pieces
and choose weld from the menu
if it doesnt work you can up the weld value
or you can fix what ever points you moved while the arm was detached

cheers

im sure there will be a hiding faces functionality later. the loop cut method seems as a decent workaround for now. but not as nice as it should be.

I know its some chinese guys method of modeling based on using a single line but the guys page is down and can't seem to find anything else out about this method
could you or someone else that uses this method or knows of it and how it is applied fill me in

Well, I get what you're saying, and good tip btw, but I needed to hide parts of a head for a particular problem. Wings' wire mode can't show what's in the front only like XSI, and it was a pain tweaking a high-poly mesh.

I met the master that invented xdugef. I asked him and he gave a riddle for an answer:

"The secret that lies in the art of xdugef, is the link between your mind and the parcated polys. Find that link, untangle the riddle of the parcated polys, and your mind will be set free."

the hide selected faces feature would be awesome if they implement it.

Loop cut works for now , but its not a fast workflow. :)

ya you can accually
try this little ditty
duplicate default material set the emissions to the same color value as the background
name it whatever you like
and assign it to the model
go to view->scenelights with no lights of your own
aw now we have what appears to be a wireframe with only whats infront showing

I prefer just using max emissions for black on flat white it works very well andcan simply be done on the default and switched back fairly fast

Oooh, another clever workaround.

Excuse this newbie for not knowing his way outside the box. :D Only been doing this modelling thing for less than a year, you know?

tis o tay
you should see some of my old questions from about 15 months ago when I started using wings
and back then it was fairly simple
it wasnt easy keeping up tho
every release had a few new tools 2-3
and a new release was between a week and 2 days

but the single best instruction I can give someone new to wings is this
play with all the tools and try them in different situations
even I still get shown a thing or 2 now and then
and if you just cant figure it out
ask

:) experience is worth 1000 times the studying

You guys are amazing. I had no idea that it was even possible to easily seperate and reattach a model. This is a perfectly fine workaround for no hiding polys. However hiding polys would make it a bit faster to work with. After all there are several steps: select loop, loop cut, turn off visibility. With hiding polys there would be just select faces/hide/ and of course unhide. This will do for now though.

how about select faces
shift + L
loopcut assigned to hotkey of choice
then click the eye for the part

4 steps 2 hotkeys
in my book hotkeys arent even a step if you know yours by heart
