View Full Version : Cars in wings
MrMunkily 02-09-2003, 11:32 PM has anyone ever modeled a high detail car in wings? if so, do you have any tips for problem spots, like cutting sharp holes in smoothly curved surfaces? the edges get messed up whenever I try to do this... I'll post a pic later if neccesary.

Thanks Clacos..
Since this was my first (serious) attempt at modelling, I made some stupid mistakes, for example, I only have 7 objects, 4 wheels, front and backwindow and the rest, i.e every thing inside the car is extruded from the car like steering wheel, seats etc. which made it harder than should have been..

Whew, just saw the last post you made on that thread dgud... I am very curious about your 'measure everything' recommendation... I hope you didn't mean doing measurements with a caliper etc. While this may be a good idea for engineering visualization, you will save yourself many headaches / strained eyes/ pads of paper with numbers that have no remembered meaning by using the image plane and ortho cameras!
It's still a good looking car though ;)
I think I did that model before images worked in wings..
don't remember, anyway I didn't use images, only my sons
model.
The image quality is really bad though, and I have never
rendered it properly either..

very nice, the delorean is looking good
dgud, you mentioned some of the mistakes you made, care to mention what you'd do differently a second time around?

also, just found a tutorial on creating a mustang in wings and maya, definitely worth checking out. click here (http://www.cmistudios.com/3d.htm) and scroll down to "2005 Mustang Video Series Tutorials".

The main problem was that I made it as one
object (except the wheels and windows), making the steering wheel took an awful lot time (extruding from caross making holes and so on)...
I don't know why...

I have a Dodge Viper VIP going at renderositys Wings3D forum (greate place as you don't have to host the images yourself).
