View Full Version : Any of you guys live in the UK?
Boone 08-29-2003, 10:02 PM Just wondered if any of you are part of the Games Programming scene and live in the UK...
I hold a meet-up in London every month - so if you want to make new contacts etc, then give me a PM.
I personally find that the UK games industy is very difficult to break into - any of you feel the same way?
Cheers!

Hi guys,
Yep UK too. I wrote a couple of games a very long time ago on the Atari ST but the scene has obviously changed a lot since then :) I will hopefully soon be writing a couple of more simple cheerful games for distribution over the internet and to get a bit of cash in my pocket to help with the mortgage :)
Personally I don't fancy working for a company in the games industry: tight deadlines, corporate designs and long hours. The large scale games are certainly an industrial task nowadays though, but hopefully there is still a place for bedroom developers with creative ideas.

Re: Frank Dodd.
Another Lone-wolf! Yay!
I know exactly what you mean about working on your own terms. You programmed for the Atari ST? Were they ever published?
Dang - now you've started me off!

Just thought i'd say hi, i'm in the UK, im near Brum, but i'm not a games programmer, i'm teaching myself to be an artist. One day i'll get a job in the games industry....and maybe make the art for the games you programme/develop.

Re: FrankyC.
Oh, I dunno - you're playing with heavy-weights here...the games we make are 100 years ahead of their time...they make Devil may Cry look like a mobile phone WAP game...you might not be able to keep up with us...:p

Hi Boone,
Neither were published but we did sell one ourselves. You started me off too as I wrote a long reply that got a little out of control! So I have moved that into another thread :) I 'think' its interesting for everyone rather than hiding it in a UK oriented thread.
Once again good luck with your development how do you plan to distribute it?
Hi FrankyC,
My previous comment was a bit too one sided about the 'corporate' games industry, while it is hard work, I would imagine there are few other jobs that are that much fun. After seeing your 'Digimon' character it's evident you have a good developing skill and I wish you all the best in getting into the industry.
That goes for you too GP03-D :)
